What is Battle of Flowers Parade?  

Where does it take place? Is it kid-friendly? Do I need to buy seats? These are just a few of the questions I have received, and I wanted to provide some answers.

What is the Battle of Flowers Parade

Is it a parade that takes time earlier in the day along the same route as Flambeau but with a completely different theme. There are lots of floats, entertainers, all of the Fiesta Royalty, and more. It’s a great place to trade medals. It is at the parade that we scored 2 dream medals from SA Flavor! The kids LOVED this event!

Battle of Flowers Parade Highlights:

• Theme: “Melodies in Bloom – A Texas Serenade,” celebrating Texas’ rich musical heritage.  
• Grand Marshal: Texas country music group, Josh Abbott Band.  
• Participants: Over 7,000 individuals, including approximately 4,500 band members and more than 200 horses.  
• Route: The 2.6-mile parade begins at East Locust Street and North Main Avenue, proceeding through Lexington Avenue, Avenue E, Alamo Plaza, Commerce Street, and concluding at West Martin Street. Note: Seating at the Cenotaph will be unavailable due to construction, and space around the Alamo will be limited.

Is Battle of Flowers Parade Kid-Friendly: Yes but reserved seating makes things much nicer

What are some of the Battle of Flowers Parade Traditions?

• “Show Me Your Shoes”: A cherished tradition where Fiesta royalty display their footwear—often sneakers or boots—beneath their elaborate gowns, reflecting a blend of elegance and comfort.
• Organizers: The parade is uniquely organized entirely by women volunteers from the Battle of Flowers Association, making it the only major parade in the U.S. with this distinction.  
• Educational Initiatives: The association sponsors events like the Battle of Flowers Band Festival, oratorical contests, and writing competitions to engage and support Texas youth. 

 Battle of Flowers Parade Activities:

• Walking around and people-watching.
• Arts and Crafts booths along parade routes.
• Food booths throughout.
• Trade Medals and take photos.
• Sit out and enjoy the parade strolling by.

Battle of Flowers Parade Parent Tips:

• Wear closed toe comfy shoes.
• Arrive early so that you can enjoy it before it is too crowded to walk.
• You can bring food and drinks.
• During Fiesta, it is Open Carry for Alcohol, and you can order drinks to go.
• Bring hand wipes and antibacterial.
• Wagons and strollers in reserved seating areas would be hard.
• I recommend purchasing reserved seats in the front row if you have little ones; otherwise, you have to get there early to fight for a seat.

And my overall is FOR Fiesta’s Battle of Flowers Parade!!!!  We will definitely go back.

As the second largest day parade in the U.S., the Battle of Flowers® Parade supports the educational, artistic, social and philanthropic achievements of our community’s youth.
